Product Description
FUN Word Sort Game is a game designed to help students compare and contrast the word card they are holding to the category card.

Each student will hold a word card that has a specific type of word on it. The category card will be turned over, read, and discussed. Students will then look at the word on their card and stand up if their word fits the category. Students can share their word and prove that it fits into the category. Many words will be able to fit into more than one category so students must keep checking their words. After two or three categories have been read I have students swap their word card with another student so they have to keep thinking about the sounds on their word card.

Another way to play with the cards would be to give everyone a word card and then have them sort themselves into categories. Those students that have grouped themselves into a category must be able to defend why they are grouped together.

There are word cards covering multiple topics.
Trick Word Cards
Glued Together Sound Cards
Bonus Letter Cards
Digraph Cards
Nonsense Word Cards
Blend Cards
R Controlled Vowel Cards
Vowel Team Cards
CVCe Cards
Closed Syllable Cards
5 Sounds to a Word Cards
Two Syllables Word Cards

You can add the new topics when your students are ready for them.
To differentiate the game, give students several cards to focus on while other students hold less cards to focus on. Another way to differentiate is to give new skill cards to your stronger phonics students and give review cards to students still needing support to master older skills.

This game can be played in a whole group, in a small guided group, with a partner,
or at a center independently.

I hope you enjoy using FUN On the Way. Be sure to look for other items that support phonics awareness!
