Engaging Learners Reading and Writing Response Sheets and Activities
Engaging Learners Spelling and Word Work Activities
Last year I struggled to find relevant, engaging activities for the rest of the class to work on while I taught small groups. I created this pack to keep my students busy with meaningful, hands-on spelling/word work, reading, and writing activities. The students loved working on these activities during Daily 3.
Please be sure to download the preview to see most of what's included. (And there's a freebie for you too!)
Included in The Reading and Writing File:
Nonfiction Response Sheets- These pages can be used with any nonfiction text. My students especially like the National Geographic Kids series.
Animal and Insect Investigation- There are different pages to choose from, and I print them back to back. You can have your students use nonfiction text or websites such as National Geographic Kids to find the information for the sheets.
Animal Research Report- Your students can choose an animal to research, and write a short summary for each section on the front, and draw a picture on the top.
Read All About It- Students can write a newspaper article about something happening in the news or they can write about something that is happening in a book they are reading.
Writing Pages- There are many choices here, including a diary page, letter paper, note paper, and postcards. You can assign students a topic, such as write a letter to a character, or let them choose how to use the pages.
Cards- Students can write a card to a friend, family member, or character in their book.
These pages are specific to book response. There are many engaging pages to choose from, such as Character Advice, Create a Book Cover, and Fairy Tale letters.
Culminating Book Projects- You can assign a card or students can choose the one they want to complete after they finish their book.
Class Writing Notebook Covers- You can choose the notebook covers you want to use, laminate them, and adhere them to notebooks. Students write about the topic of the cover.
Spelling/Word Work File:
There are 16 different activities included. You can set up a spelling/word work station and have everything ready for your students to take to their seats. All they will need is your weekly spelling list and the activities available to them. Last year I set out the activities for the week and let students choose what they wanted to take to their seats and work on. I rotated the activities each week to keep the students engaged.
The full color activities have a blackline version so you can print what you like. The blackline copies look great on brightly colored copy paper. Included are some choices of 10, 15, or 20 word activities. Each set has student directions included if you would like to post them.
