Vowels and Consonants is a great way for students to practice their spelling words. I set up a station with 6 Speller’s Choice Menu options and each week many students choose to show their understanding of vowels by practicing their sight words by writing the vowels in red. This is a great way for students to begin to learn the first grade standard that each syllable has a vowel and to understand which letters are vowels and why they are important. I have often have my students chant “vowel are important because every word and syllable has a vowel!” This product is aligned with National Geographic Reach for Reading curriculum. It uses the six high frequency words from each week in each unit.
Students read the sight words. Then they write them neatly and correctly using the primary dotted lines. Finally students use a pencil and a red pencil, pen, or marker to write their vowels in red in the last column.
