This resource uses Australian/ British English spelling. Click here to view the American English version.
This word of the week package includes everything you need to enhance students' vocabulary for the ENTIRE year!
This is no ordinary package. Here's why.
It includes 136 pages of:
> Instructions and tips on using this resource
> 40 word of the week posters - 1 for every week of the school year! Each poster includes the word, word type, a child friendly definition and a sentence to show it being used in context.
> Teacher Vs Student Game template to increase engagement and reinforce each word.
> Word race game template to increase engagement and reinforce each word.
> Classroom display labels
ALL of the printables are available in colour and black and white to suit all budgets and preferences.
Please note, for ease of use and instruction I have only included one definition of each word although some may have multiple meanings. You can discuss the multiple meanings with students if appropriate or introduce alternative meanings as part of an extension exercise.
Here's a sneak peak of some of the focus words that students will learn and use -
protruding, decipher, ominous, mediocre, fastidious, elated, dishevelled, moreish, exquisite, ancient, barren
Although I HIGHLY recommend printing the posters and making them visible throughout the week (as this is a strategy that will increase students' word retention and recall), I understand that some teachers may like to have a PowerPoint version so that they can choose to display it digitally.
