This product contains the PowerPoint, lesson and activities (with worksheets!) for CCSS 7.3- Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
CCSS 7.3a- Choose language that expresses ideas precisely and concisely, recognizing and eliminating wordiness and redundancy.
This wordiness lesson is simple, fun and engaging.
Using the Essential Question: "How can we eliminate wordiness?" activities are built around showing students how to write most effectively.
The PowerPoint encompasses the lecture. The activating strategy uses "Six Word Memoirs," which forces students to write simply.
The lesson also has vocabulary (concise, precisely and redundant), 3 rules (1- Replace vague words with more powerful and specific words, 2- Cut out unnecessary words, and 3- Combine Sentences) to eliminate wordiness, as well as examples for the class. The exit ticket asks students to write a six word memoir summarizing the lesson.
I think your students will enjoy this lesson!
