If you use Wordly Wise vocabulary program in your classroom, then this set of assessments is for you! These assessments correlate to the twenty lessons in Book 5 of the Wordly Wise series. I was looking for something more substantial than the multiple choice assessments provided by the publisher. [I now use those assessments as a review task for the assessments I have created.] Each assessment I created is broken into four parts that assess every word introduced in a lesson. The first part asks students to identify synonyms and antonyms (from a provided list) for five of the vocabulary words. The second part also assesses five words and asks students to read a sentence which contains a vocabulary word and then decide whether it is correctly or incorrectly used, referring to the definition to support their answer. The third part is a cloze task with the five remaining words. The final section asks students three open-ended questions and provides room for students to write a response. Each assessment has an answer key provided for all sections but part 4, in which answers will vary.
I believe that assessing my students in these four ways provides me much more meaningful feedback about their knowledge of the words that have been introduced in each lesson.
Thank you for taking the time to preview my product. I believe you will find these assessment are rigorous and truly assess your students' grasp of the new vocabulary words they have been introduced to.
