If you use Wordly Wise vocabulary program in your classroom, then this sample assessment is for you! This assessment correlates to the first lesson in Book 5 of the Wordly Wise series. I was looking for something more substantial than the multiple choice assessment provided by the publisher. [I now use those assessments as a review task for the assessments I have created.] Each assessment I created is broken into four parts that assess every word introduced in a lesson. The first part asks students to identify synonyms and antonyms (from a provided list) for five of the vocabulary words. The second part also assesses five words and asks students to read a sentence which contains a vocabulary word and then decide whether it is correctly or incorrectly used, referring to the definition to support their answer. The third part is a cloze task with the five remaining words. The final section asks students three open-ended questions and provides room for students to write a response. Each assessment has an answer key provided for all sections but part 4, in which answers will vary.
I believe that assessing my students in these four ways provides me much more meaningful feedback about their knowledge of the words that have been introduced in each lesson.
Please try this free assessment out with your students and see if you don't agree! Thank you for taking the time to preview my product.
