I have students work on the cloze tasks provided by the publisher of the Wordly Wise series to help build their contextual knowledge of the words they are introduced to in each lesson. Students are asked to fill in a blank with one of 15 complex vocabulary words. They can't always figure out the part of speech they need, nor the correct form of the word (singular/plural/correct verb tense). To help them, I created this resource to take some of the guesswork out of completing the task. It also allows them to work with less dependence on me for direction.
Students are provided a list of the vocabulary words in the form they will be used as well as a hint at the part of speech of the word that correctly completes each sentence. Using the word list (broken down by part of speech) and the answer sheet (providing them the part of speech they are looking for), students are much more apt to get the right answer. Students feel successful, and you, the teacher, are less frazzled! It's a win-win for everyone. Check out the preview for a sample of this fantastic resource that puts cloze tasks within the reach of every student in your class!
If you wanted to, you could even use these support sheets as an assessment of your students' working knowledge of the vocabulary words introduced in each lesson, scaffolding the task for students who need more support.
Note: This resource does NOT include the reading passages or cloze sentences needed to use these support sheets. You must have the Wordly Wise book 5 workbook and teacher resource book to make use of these support sheets.
