This brief packet gives English teachers an opportunity to introduce students to the lighter side of language learning as they explore anagrams (reversing or mixing up letters to find other words), palindromes (words and phrases that read the same backwards or forwards), spoonerisms (switching word parts around) and homophonic "eggcorns" (where the words sound and are spelled right but have the wrong meanings). Students will enjoy deciphering the gap fills and revising the silly stories in these four activities. At the same time, they'll practice out-of-the-box thinking, learn some fun facts and be exposed to a lot of new vocabulary as well. These activities can be used in various ways, for independent work, group work, or homework. An answer key is included as well as some links to other informative sites that can be used to extend the lessons.
