Looking for an easy-to-use resource that will enhance your students' vocabulary and get them excited to learn about words? You've come to the right place!
This resource includes:
-detailed instructions, including how to prepare for and implement a Words Are Wonderful Wednesday
-two student reproducibles, including a Wonderful Words nomination form and a Wonderful Words voting form
These Words Are Wonderful activities reinforce what you are already doing in your Language Arts instruction, including Daily Five strategies, particularly Tune into Interesting (Wonderful) Words. Once students have the necessary background knowledge (syllables, parts of speech, prefixes, suffixes, and alphabetizing), all you need to do is give your students time to nominate words they think are wonderful, fill in the voting form template, and let them vote! I have my students complete the nomination form and voting form as morning work, so it takes a total of about 20 minutes.
My students look forward to Words Are Wonderful Wednesday every week. It encourages them to pay attention to words around them, reinforces their understanding of key academic vocabulary - such as prefix and suffix - and gives them an opportunity to practice engaging with words in meaningful, important ways. I hope your students love it as much as mine do!
