This product was created along side of my other Words Their Way Connect Four games. This is a blank template, if you would like to create a Connect Four activity within your classroom or if you would like give your students the responsibility of choosing their own sort words to include.
I have my students work with a small group or a partner, to practice their sort for that week. One student will leave out their sort words and place them upside down. Once a word is called, the student or students with that word on their card will explain where that word belongs in their sort (Long Vowel or Short Vowel) and then put their word in a sentence. If a student can correctly do the above, they can cover their word with a space marker (my class favorites are Target Dollar Spot erasers!). The first student to connect four of their sort words in a row wins.
I created this product on a white background, so I could print these on colored cardstock. This product was designed to have two game boards on one sheet of paper. I simply printed each page out on cardstock, cut them in half and then laminated each sheet for durability. This product can now be used for years to come. This is just one of the may ways this product can be used inside of your class too!
Be on the lookout for the other Within Word Pattern Spellers, Letter Name - Alphabetic, Syllables and Affixes Spellers, and Derivational Relations Spellers Connect Four Units.
Even if you don't use Words Their Way, you can use these spelling activities within small groups to teach different spelling patterns and phonics.
