Includes the following:
Word Meaning Reference Pages- Students become familiar with the meaning of their words. Derivational Relations has some challenging vocabulary, for example: pugnacious, inherence, pentarchy, interregnum, technocrat, patronymic, psycholinguists, renunciation, etc. You get the idea. Students need to understand the words they are working with.
Definition Word Sorts- This sort has students sorting the words and the definitions. They can even check their own sort by using the word meaning reference pages as an answer key. When the kids have finished using this sort (you decide how often you want them to sort the definitions), they glue the words and definitions down.
Words in Context- Students working with more challenging vocabulary need to see how to use those words in context. Even if they have developed an understanding of the words, they may need help with how to use them in context.
Think of Other Words- Students can demonstrate their understanding of the patterns (e.g., prefix, suffix, Greek and Latin root, etc.,) by generating their own words and placing them in the correct category.
Write Your Own- Once the students have developed an understanding of the words and how to use them in context, they are ready to write the words in sentences themselves. Included is space for five sentences per group of words.
Connect Two- An extension of writing words in sentences, this classic activity requires students to make a meaningful connection between two words and put them together in a sentence. Space provided for one connect two per group of words.
Answer Key- Very handy!
Activities are for all 38 sorts.
