Do you use Words Their Way in your classroom? This packet is a great resource to give your students extra practice with their Words Their Way sorts! These phonics passages are created to use the words for each sort to help students learn to read and identify the phonics rules from each unit. There are two comprehension questions at the end of the passage as well! I have my students highlight all the words that follow each week’s rule, and we use these passages as fluency practice too. There is a space to write how many words per minute students read as well.
This file includes 50 different passages that are tailored to each Word Their Way sort in Word Sorts for Letter Name: Alphabetic Spellers. All the words chosen for these pages follow the same rules as Words Their Way, but I've tried to use different words than are included in the sort to force students to really look at the spelling patterns rather than rely on the familiarity of the sort.
Within these 50 sort and color pages, there are 50 different graphics from KPM Doodles and Scrappin’ Doodles to keep your students' attention! My class loves them!
These sort and color pages cover the following topics:
-same vowel word families
-blends and digraphs
-mixed vowel word families
-short vowels in CVC words
-introduction to r-controlled vowels
-introduction to contractions
