UPDATED: to include labels to organize read the room sorts
Word Study is a great way to get students to learn patterns to help them read and write. Included are 38 read the room activites that range from beginning sounds, blends, digraphs, and long and short vowels in both words and pictures. These pair with the Word Study sorts that follow my Words Their Way Letter Name sorts.
Each sort has 12 cards that correspond to some of the pictures/words in each of the word study sorts. There are 3 different kinds of read the room cards.
- picture cards (these include images that are in the sort to reinforce vocabulary and others that are not to encourage students to extend the skill to new words; each picture card has the word missing the letter/blend/digraph/pattern so that students can write the whole word – the exception is the long vowel sorts where it’s just the picture)
- picture/illustrate the word cards (these include 8 pictures and 4 words – the 4 words, use patterns for students to apply their knowledge reading words and illustrating to match)
- real and nonsense word cards (the 12 cards are all words that the students must read and record whether they are real or nonsense)
For additional resources check out my Word Study sorts and workbook and Type it Out spell checks. All of these are bundled together as well.
