This bundle is perfect if you are just beginning Words Their Way! Figuring out an organization was the most challenging part to beginning Words Their Way, but using this has been a breeze!
GENERAL SORT PACKET:
The Words Their Way program offers a variety of sorts for the students, but I have found it most effective and manageable to have one packet that the students must complete by the end of the week. Once these sorts are completed, I then give them the choice of what sort to complete. This packet holds them accountable for a certain amount of sorts. See the additional Words Their Way materials I have to see how I incorporate word meaning into the sorting process!
WORDS THEIR WAY HOMEWORK:
Since students practice sorting in class, for homework they work on word meaning. This assignment allows for differentiation even with homework. Students and parents enjoy this homework because students are given the choice of activity. The homework does not seem repetitive, and students enjoy trying out a new activity each time.
I project this PowerPoint, use the Words Their Way Sort Packet, and have had a great time adjusting to Words Their Way! There is minimal preparation, and students really enjoy the predictability of it. This allows them know their expectations each day, and to hold themselves accountable.
Send this home to better explain the program to parents. Since Words Their Way is very different than a regular spelling program, parents tend to be a little apprehensive (from my experience).
