This set of sorts follows the Words Their Way orange book for spellers in the syllables and affixes stage. This set includes sorts 1 through 11 from that book, which focus on plurals and other inflected endings. The sorts are each individual files created with Google Drawings. They must be delivered digitally to your students; they are not a printable resource. These digital sorts work perfectly with Google Classroom - once your students are enrolled in your class, simply create the assignment and set it to make a copy for each student. If you've never used Google Classroom before, it even makes a folder for you in your Google Drive that puts all the assignments together in one place.
If your school does not use Google Apps for Education, you could display this activity on your interactive whiteboard for a group to sort together.
Because you are being given a link to the digital version of this file, you can tweak it to suit your needs. For example, you could remove the headers and have your students figure out how to sort the words and then add the headers themselves.
The following sorts are included:
Sort 1: Review of vowel patterns in one syllable words
Sort 2: Adding -ing to words with VC and VCC patterns
Sort 3: Adding -ing to words with VCe and VVC patterns
Sort 4: Inflected Endings - Review of double, e-drop, and nothing
Sort 5: Adding -ed to words with double, e-drop, and no change
Sort 6: Unusual Past Tense Words
Sort 7: Plural Endings - adding -es
Sort 8: Unusual Plurals
Sort 9: Final -y
Sort 10: -y Plurals
Sort 11: Inflected Endings (-ed and -ing) added to words that end in -y
The preview shows a sample screenshot of what the students will see when the Google Drawing file is given to them.
