Often wonder how you can bring technology into your classroom? Try this bulletin board game Words With Friends. It combines math AND ELA!
This file includes the blank tiles for you to set up the grid, 2 sets the alphabet letters, and bonus tiles for double letter, triple letter, double word, and triple word (DL, TL, DW, and TW).
I would recommend making an 8x8 grid. It isn't too big or too small and there is just enough space to make words for about 15-20 minute center rotations. However, you can make it any size you'd like. There are 80 tiles included for an 80-square grid. If you like the idea of the 8x8, then use 64.
You can use a pocket chart with transparent pockets and simply slide the squares inside the pocket straps, or put this on a bulletin board on the wall.
All you need to do is cut out the squares, make the grid, stick the TW, DW, TL, & DL wherever you choose. Cut out the letters (also squares) and put them in a pile in the table. Each student gets 7 letters to start with. As they make a word, they draw the amount of cards from the pile that they used to make their word.
-Example: If Johnny made the word sang, he would draw 4 cards from the pile. Susie goes next and makes the word go, she would draw 2 cards from the pile.
**This game is great because it CROSSES CONTENTS, engaging students in ELA AND MATH. Students have to add up their points as they make each word.
