I am not a fan of weekly spelling lists that students memorize and then forget after Friday's test. But, students do make frequent mistakes on many high frequency words. In my class, I attach this page to the inside cover of their Response Journals and Writing Notebooks and students know to add words that they find they are commonly misspelling week after week. Sometimes they are words that I suggest they add and sometimes they add them. But, it becomes their "spelling demons" list and personalized towards words they need to learn. Its sort of like their own word wall! As the year progresses, they know to check that list as they edit and eventually, new habits are formed!
