I learned about Work Progress Triangles at an amazing conference and it has worked beautifully in my own behavioral classroom. So, here is a miracle working triangle for your class as well.
1) Download, modify (if desired), and print the template on sturdy paper. I recommend laminating them for longevity.
2) Fold template hot-dog style in even threes. You are making a pop up triangle. Tape the ends so it stays a triangle shape.
Teachers are quickly able to monitor how their students are comprehending independent work and help students as needed. Students learn where there problems areas are and learn how to work past them.
Teachers should complete a mini lesson about the Work Progress Triangles and explain when students are completing independent work they are to use the triangles. Teachers should explain the following rules to the students. If the student is displaying the green side they are able to continue working without any problems. If the student is showing the yellow side they feel they need help with a specific problem or area but will continue working until the teacher is able to come around. The red side means the student is stuck and cannot continue working without the help of the teacher. This way the teacher can go around and help students who are red first and then move onto the yellows. With the Work Progress Triangles students are more productive and still can get assistance as needed.
