Product Description

I wrote this holistic full-page unit test about work, simple machines, and mechanical advantage for my middle school physical science students. The student copy of the activity includes two equations for calculating mechanical advantage in addition to the breakdown of what the symbols of the variables mean in the aforementioned equations.

Here is a breakdown of the test sections:

• Part 1 is a multiple choice section.
• In Part 2 students label the load, effort, and fulcrum of a class-1 and class-2 lever.
• In Part 3, students calculate the mechanical advantage and the force of effort.
• In Part 4, students determine whether the object is a class-1, class-2, or class-3 lever.
• In Part 5, students identify whether the simple machine example is an inclined plane, a lever, a wheel & axle, a wedge, a screw, or a pulley.

Since this document is editable, it could be modified and offered as a summative review guide or as a homework quiz intead. I omitted the point valuations for each section on the student copy and allow you to determine and state your valuation. This listing comes with a full-page colored key with answers that honor the rules of significant figures for multiplication and division.

This assessment complements the other lessons I have published about simple machines, work, and mechanical advantage:

• Lever Classification Worksheet Bundle
• Simple Machines Identification / Classification Table Set 1-2
• Simple Machines Identification / Classification Table Set 3-4
• Work Problem Set (To be released in 2019)

I offer dozens of quality field-tested, innovative, practical, and user-friendly science products for several fields of science - biology, chemistry, field ecology, physical science, earth science, and human anatomy and physiology.

I began launching my curriculum through TpT in 2018. I have over twenty years of teaching and curriculum writing experience as the department head. I joined TpT with seventeen years of publishing experience through several international science supply corporations.
