Give each student/child one of these cards as a way to indicate that it is time for he/she to come work with you.
Students can use these cards to transition from one student to another by simply passing the card onto the next student who needs to see you.
Teacher could also place the card beside a student’s name in a pocket chart monitored by the class. Additionally, these could be laminated and a piece of hook-and-loop tape could be placed on the back and on a wall or board. Teachers could place the card in this location when it is time to work in small groups or individually with the teacher. This hook-and-loop tape location could also be on a student’s desk or work area.
Give students who frequently ask for help an allotment of these cards to "spend" with you each day/class. This helps students learn to manage when asking for help is really necessary. Overtime, reduce the each student’s allotment as independence is gained.
Use these cards as prizes or rewards and students can spend them on assignment or assessment questions for your help/guidance or a freebie answer.
Students could also spend a Work with the Teacher Card for the opportunity during a test to use their notes or books.
I highly recommend printing on cardstock and then laminating. Another option is cutting out the cards and gluing to tagboard paper. Follow that up by laminating.
Label the back of each card with its purpose (teacher help, reward card, freebie answer).
Sign the back of each card for authenticity.
