Focus on Vocabulary and Reading for Details:
Vocabulary acquisition is essential for readers to read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. This workbook differs from many supplementary materials for the classic “Ramona Quimby Age 8” in that it focuses on vocabulary development and reading for detail. Included are these kinds of exercises:
*Use context clues to guess new words.
*Sequence events in the story using temporal cues
*Distinguish common homophones (to, too, two)(eight, ate).
*Distinguish common homographs (nail on your finger and pound a nail).
*Write cause/effect sentences with because or so.
*Synonyms and antonyms.
*Use a dictionary to find words, alphabetize words.
*Write about friendship.
The questions for each chapter vary in format, keeping the workbook interesting. There are also fun activities to color a picture and put words in the speech bubbles of the characters.
