Description
These two worksheets are focused on teaching and supporting kids and young adults who need to learn how to effectively work with partners and in groups. The first worksheet allows students to brainstorm ways to be a positive group member and use higher order thinking skills to select the five ways to be an effective group member. A self-reflection sheet is also included so students can reflect upon their progress after a partner or small group session. This gives data to the student and to the teacher.
Why Teach Working With Others?
Kids of all ages need to learn how to work effectively in groups with others. We use small groups all the time in school for reading groups, partner projects, fun activities, reviewing material, and much more. Helping kids understand how to be a strong and positive group member will help your class run more smoothly throughout the year.
This can also be beneficial for kids with disabilities, including ADHD, ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), Autism, and other needs. Often, these kids and young adults do not understand the "ground rules" of working in groups, which leads them to get in trouble and have an inability to work productively in a group. Giving time to teach and practice group skills can help those children grow and become strong group members in the classroom.
