Product Description
A 8-page document that covers classification of matter, which includes the nature of pure substances (elements and compounds) and mixtures (heterogeneous and homogenous) through a 1-page reading, 6 review questions and a station lab activity

Page 1 features a reading exercise on the following topics:

Reading Exercise Contents:

- What is matter?
- What is chemistry?
- What is a pure substance?
- Fixed composition
- Elements
- Compounds
- Atoms
- Molecules
- Mixtures
- Variable composition
- Heterogeneous mixtures
- Homogeneous mixtures
- Solutions

Page 2 features 6 review questions that test student understanding in the form of short answer questions, and summary tables that cover all concepts found in the reading.

Pages 3-4 is a full answer key for the review questions.

Station Lab Activity:

Page 5 features a station lab activity where students move around the classroom, observe 18 different substances (everyday materials and easy to acquire for a typical science teacher), and classify them as either elements, compounds, heterogeneous mixtures, or homogenous mixtures. This activity is designed to give students "concrete" examples of these types of matter and reinforce ideas learned from the reading.

Page 6 is a full answer key for the station lab activity.

Page 7 contains labels for all substances used in the activity, which can easily be printed off, cut out and taped down in front of each substance. These labels make classifying matter for students less of a guessing game and more about interpreting labels, chemical formulas, and observing physical characteristics.

Included Teacher's Guide:

Page 8 is a teacher's guide to help run the station lab activity smoothly.
