Product Description
A 3-page reading and review worksheet that provides a summary of the isotopes, average atomic mass, % abundance, and weighted averages through a 1-page reading exercise and a 1-page review worksheet.

I use this product to review concepts found in Section 3 of my Atoms and the Periodic Table PPT presentation. This section introduces the topic of isotopes, % abundance, weighted averages, and calculating a weighted average.

A link to my Atoms and the Periodic Table PPT presentation is found below.

PPT - Atoms and the Periodic Table

Product Contents:

Page 1 features a reading exercise on the following topics:

- Basic information found in an element's square: name, chemical symbol, atomic number, mass number
- Atomic number (# of protons or electrons)
- Atomic mass (# of protons + neutrons)
- Isotopes
- How some naturally-occurring isotopes are more abundant than others (with carbon as an example)
- Atomic mass as an average mass
- Weighted averages
- Calculating weighted averages (with example)

Page 2 is a review sheet divided up into 3 sections:

- Review of content from the reading (fill in the blanks)
- Completing a summary table of element information and determining the most abundant isotope
- Calculating a weighted average of an element.

Pages 3 is a full color-coded answer key for all review questions.

NOTE: Product Includes 2 Periodic Tables For Handouts:

Since a periodic table is required for this activity, Page 4 features 2 small periodic tables that can be printed off and used by students to look up the names, chemical symbols, atomic numbers, and atomic mass numbers of elements in order to complete Question #2. The periodic tables are high resolution images in black and white for easy photocopying. There are 2 per page to minimize the amount of photocopies needed!

Downloadable in 2 Formats:

This worksheet comes in 2 formats: a static PDF document and fully-editable WORD document.
