This worksheet is very general and can be used with multiple ELA grade levels. You can assign it as homework or use it as an in-class activity. Students will need to select a news article. This can be online or in print. They will read the article and respond to the short response questions on the worksheet - basic questions about who, what, when, where, but also questions about the reliability of the source, if there is another perspective to consider, etc. Students will also need to think of a person that might be interviewed for the story, and brainstorm some possible questions that would be worthwhile to ask. I've used this resource plenty of times for different levels - it's an easy go-to assignment/activity for journalism class or ELA.
