The accompanying worksheet for the 16-minute introductory video.
This is a 16-minute introductory video to any middle school language arts class. Images, music, and narration take students through a beginner's look at the concept of communication (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and challenge students to think outside of a traditional "language arts" classroom. Students are asked to answer 8 questions during the duration of the video via accompanying worksheet. This ensures an active lesson for students versus passive viewing.
**Note: The accompanying video is available for FREE in my store, "Ms Reids Corner".
**As an educator, I have shown this video during the first week of school to seventh grade students.
1. As this is a beginning-of-the-year lesson, review simple classroom procedures with students prior to video.
2. Provide students with individual copies of the handout "TOD - Communication is Language Arts" and read the directions aloud.
3. IMPORTANT: Questions do NOT appear on the video, but answers ARE provided to students in the last few minutes of viewing and are revealed in sequential order.
4. Play the video on your preferred multimedia viewing platform (QuickTime is the best for this format).
**Note: While showing this video to students, it is at your discretion whether or not to pause answers as they appear. As a management tool, I prefer NOT to pause so my students are more accountable.
