This tool has a dual purpose and dual components. It illustrates and clarifies many of the most potent and widely used of our Best Practices and encourages the deliberate and skillful combining of them to create new vistas of learning for our students. I have used it personally in Teacher Training as well as Staff Development Workshops, and it has been met with rousing praise as one of the most helpful tools the participants have ever received. It also demonstrates the efficacy of designing your annual curiculum in a Strand-Woven manner, so as to help students clearly see and naturally embrace the kinship that each one of our isolated lessons must share with all the other lessons that exist within and without our disciplines!
[When teachers effectively combine Best Practices then establish and purposely sequence the flows of each one of their target lessons in light of all of their other lessons, they powerfully facilitate the goal of showing students how each one of their target lessons relies on and is also relied upon by its fellows. Such, too, is the natural order and organizational structure of every vital and healthy eco-system in our world. In those systems, all life flows, at once, independently and in tandem! Our classrooms must be viable academic eco-systems. If nature, the master teacher, herself has through patient design chosen to have an interwoven structure that permits her to thrive best, is there a doubt that we, too, should likewise choose?]
