It’s time for the worldwide athletic competition in Rio de Janeiro! This file is the perfect set of Olympic-inspired task cards for middle school students to practice map and globe skills. The Social Studies skills addressed in the 24 task cards include: use cardinal and intermediate directions, use latitude and longitude to determine location, and use graphic scales to determine distances on a map. The setup is simple—just print out the cards and student response sheet, cut them out, and give them to students. I have included directions for your students to complete the cards in a Gallery Walk-style, but you can also use them like traditional task cards. Students will need atlases to complete the activity, but everything else needed is provided in the file. These cards are an excellent, interactive way for middle school students to review map and globe skills. Have fun and Gooooo USA!
