This is my interaction lesson plan for the world belief systems and includes everything you need for a project. The only thing you need is computer access. You can use only research such as textbooks but it is more fun and enjoyable with the kids if they can use the computer lab and or library.
There is a very interesting intro Power Point that talks about different belief systems around the world and how popular they are. There is also a interesting activity where students see how/why Jerusalem is important to CHristians/Muslims/Jews.
I have them create a How to guide to follow an assigned belief system or a "Judaism for Dummies" pamphlet to create.
There is a guide that gives you specifically a day by day explanation and directions for the project. TAKES 6 DAYS TOTAL. Along with this is a grading rubric and guiding questions that students must have included in their booklet. They will all become experts in their one assigned belief system.
I then have students THINK/PAIR/SHARE and sit in cooperative groups when we are all done and pass around the booklets. So each group has to read and analyze another groups project as a way to debrief the whole project. After 5-10 minutes they will switch books and get a new one researching and exploring all about that new religion/belief system.
I also included a graphic organizer that can be used with this debriefing activity that highlights very important points and questions that each belief system.
