This engaging, interactive explorer activity will have your students excited to learn about early world explorers. This explorer wheel is the perfect introduction to some of the important European explorers. Students will also identify what motivated European countries to send explorers. Use my examples or include explorers that I did not. There are ten explorers that I talk about in my classroom (Juan Ponce de Leon, Vasco de Gama, Leif Erikson, Christopher Columbus, Marco Polo, Francisco Coronado, Jacques Cartier, Hernan Cortez, Ferdinand Magellan, and Henry Hudson). This activity can be perfectly tailored for your classroom! The template allows you to use these same explorers, or others that you would like to emphasize.
Students learn about how these men led the way for settlers to come to America. This can be used as a guided activity or as a research project. Research papers for the students are included.
The setup is easy! All the students need are papers to be copied, crayons, coloring devices, and a brad. Once the project is complete, students love rotating the wheel and looking at the explorer information.
