World Geography 4-Day Mini Unit - Print and Digital Versions Included

Map skills, video, group work, self-assessment, writing prompts and a poster activity come together to make up a terrific 4 days of world geography! The lessons are designed for student engagement and prep-free teacher support.

There's a FULLY EDITABLE slide presentation every day to walk you through each step of the lesson.

Here is a summary of each day:

DAY 1 - This is an overview lesson. It starts with a short inspiring video of a 6-year old geography whiz. Next students will interact with a blank world map and label it using prior knowledge, a video and by following clues. There is a writing prompt as well.

DAY 2 - Building from the prior day's lesson, students will work in groups to create a world map and devise high-level questions based on their work.

DAY 3 - The warm-up has students answer some of the questions created by their classmates yesterday. Then they will use prior knowledge and a brief lecture to define geographic terminology. Next your kiddos will use Google Earth to experience actual locations (Mount Everest, Amazon River, etc) to further their understanding. DEVICES ARE NEEDED FOR THIS LESSON.

DAY 4 - The last day is a gallery walk style lesson. Students find the answer to clues in order to assess how different peoples throughout time have adapted to their environmental challenges.

Each lesson is designed for a single 50-minute period and is appropriate for 6th-10th grade students.

What is and is not editable?

The slides are fully editable. The student handouts and documents are PDFs and not editable. The digital version of the student handouts are also not editable (other than adding a textbox over existing text)

Who is this resource NOT appropriate for?

This lesson is probably too difficult for elementary students and too easy for AP level 10th-12th graders.
