I compiled a list of possible films to show in my world geography class, and included where you can find the film yourself to show your class. These films can be part of a lesson, or can be easily shown in your absence. I believe that students need to actually see pictures and film of other cultures to understand them better from a school desk. I always include a quiz or class worksheet when I show a film to make sure the student paid attention and understood what I showed them. I also add questions about the film on tests. Often I pause a film to discuss with the class what we just saw, and to relate the film back to the lesson I have been teaching that week.
I have personally watched most of these films, and for the most part they are suitable to show your class. You still want to preview the film before you show it. For instance, some cultures find it acceptable to not wear clothes, and kids can be immature about these scenes if you do not ask them to be mature first or do not process it with them. These scenes can also be fast forwarded and skipped.
