Students are given instructions to "Imagine that they are a part of a delegation and are responsible for organizing a new form of republican government. As part of the delegation they must identify the type of government this new country will implement. Each will be assigned a personal advisor (from the Enlightenment period) to help them on their quest. Individually you must read through this philosopher's writings and look for suggestions to present to your entire delegation."
Included in the packet: primary source writings from Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau and Hobbes, guided questions for each primary source, individual research questions, group questions and a quick overview of how to read primary sources.
In the past, students have remarked how it helped them to understand the foundations of government in a fun filled way.
