In this 45-60 minute high school World History lesson plan, Students will begin building their background knowledge about the Age of Imperialism and China’s role during this time.
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to answer the following questions:
1. Knowing what you do now about the Age of Imperialism, in what ways would you describe “China Foreigners”.
2. Can you explain how the Age of Imperialism affected the world we see today?
3. Can you elaborate on the reason for why Europe felt China was so important for them to prosper economically?
4. Create a scenario in which you explain how imperialism is applied today. Your example must use a current event that it is relatable and understandable for a classmate.
Students will need to get their creative juice flowing and write a blog related to the Open-Door Policy. More details can be found in the lesson.
This lesson will provide students with a classroom activity, lesson extension, and project ideas. The main lesson will require students to break up into learning groups and answer various open-ended questions. Once they have completed these questions they will engage in a group discussion.
