On the theme of how much we as world history teachers have to cover in a term: It's overwhelming! It is far too easy to get sidetracked and never even make it past WWII. But it doesn't have to be.
I wouldn't drive without my GPS, and I won't teach without one either (figuratively speaking, of course) . It helps if both the teacher and the students are very clear about where they are and where they are headed. That's where my Units at a Glance help. The document contains a list, brief summary, and a time frame for each unit I teach in world history. The course outline is standards-based and contains 2 pages--one for traditional schedule and one for block schedule.
