Mankind The Story of All of US 12 Episodes:

-1.DISCUSSION QUESTIONS- WWI discussion questions that are easy to use in class and create a nice discussion either in groups of 2 or individually to do and discuss as a class.

-2.40 SLIDE POWERPOINT- Causes PowerPoint about what is going on year by year with WWI. This PPT is large but covers all angles of the war. It comes with a sheet to keep the students accountable. There is 40 slides with a slide for the video to be inserted at the end.

- 3.WWI SHORT VIDEO -A fantastic short video that I believe will change students perspectives on WWI as they see the realities of what it meant to be a soldier in WWI. This short film has subtitles and really brings home the message about WWI. ( please insert at the end of the PPT)

- 4. WOODROW WILSON 14 PT- assignment to do in class following the PPT.

This is a one day assignment that students can do by themselves or in groups. It is one of the standards so it is very important to spend some time on this critical document that will lead to much later developments in the world.

This is a fantastic assignment that covers submarine warfare and the trenches of WWI. It is all about historical empathy and writing. I will be including the assignment sheet and the links to both of the videos.

The first assignment deals with submarine warfare. I know Das Boat is from WWII but it does not matter as it truly shows what it is like to live and die in a submarine. It shows how you are stuck and at the will of those above you. I love showing this clip, even though it is from 1981.

The second assignment deals with the trenches and Mel Gibson who is a trench runner. He has to try and save his battalion from going over the top and committing suicide. It is really sad and makes the students realize just how pointless the loss of life was.

Das Boat:
46"-1'05" give or take a few seconds.

Last 10 minutes of the movie.

-6.WAR HORSE- Wanted to create something that would allow me to keep the students accountable for the movie, but also allow them to watch the movie.

Includes: This 15 question worksheet will give you some accountability for the movie while still making the students think about some of the essential questions from the movie.

- 7.WORKSHEET- This is an old fashioned worksheet with fill in the black answers about WWI. I have also included the key and as it is a word document you can adjust everything to make t work for you!

- 8.WRITING ASSIGNMENT- This is a 5 paragraph essay that will use the paragraph format that I have posted in my store. Each paragraph is 11 sentences and has a very specific format. This assignment will compare / contrast and discuss the consequences of each of these major events.

DAY 1 AND 2: I start with a slide show of the Romanov Dynasty. This is a great way to go over the last couple of Kings in Russia. It is 17 slides and really sets the stage for the transition from the old way to the Communist state that will follow.

DAY 4 AND 5 AND 6: I typically show the HBO special Rasputin. It is fantastic as it shows the in's and outs of the Romanov Dynasty and how Rasputin himself was instrumental in influencing the Tsar. This is the 1996 version as I am not sure where to find it.

DAY 7 AND 8: Lenin and Stalin are next as I start a 28 slide PPT that goes through the entire shift from a King to Communism. This explains the in's and out's of why everything goes the way it does. I really feel this is the best way to teach this important part of history. I have included 2 videos as I could only fit one of them on the download, the other is on youtube and can be downloaded and inserted into the PPT.

Gulag video many lives many Days:

DAY 9: I like to pass out the Russian Revolution reading in class with questions that I like to go over in class.

DAY 10: To finish off the unit we do a Russian Revolution paper in my class. It is a great way for the students to show me what they have learned throughout the unit and to show mastery of the subject.

DAY 11: I have as a bonus included the gift assignment which is a perfect way to end the unit. Each student will be required to use all vocab in the chapter and represent it visually or textually using the front and back of a blank sheet of paper. Please see the sample I have included.

I would probably have students do either DAY 10 or DAY 11 but not both. It would be just too much work.

The Rise of Totalitarian dictators sets the stage for the rest of the year, in my opinion. I really enjoy teaching this, not for the content, but because the students know very little about this very interesting period of time.

In this BUNDLE I will be including the following items:

Day 1: Teaching of the Depression and the Rise of Fascism and what it is. here is a fill in document that goes with the teaching. I have made the teaching both in PPT/ and Keynote.

BONUS #1: As a bonus you could do a concept attainment with fascism to make sure the students got it by watching a short clip of Pink Floyd the Wall to see how many things fit as true fascist activities.

Day 2 and 3: Teaching the rise of the 3 dictators. Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler. There is a fill in document that goes with the teaching. I have made the teaching both in PPT/ and Keynote.

Day 4: I use the 4th day to launch the writing assignment. The writing assignment asks the students to compare 2 of the dictators and contrast 2 of the dictators. I use my

or if you really want all my reading and writing stuff:

This makes writing so much easier when you have a proper template to have them write to.

After I have taught it and launched my writing assignment we will watch 2 videos on class. I have the students take notes on both of them to make sure they are guided with their watching and that they are not just zoning out.

Day 5: I have the students watch this in its entirety as it does the best job of showing and explaining Mussolini's career and life. This is the 2nd clip from youtube as the first one got taken down so I will include that as I downloaded it before it got removed from youtube.

Day 6 and 7: Another great video, The Roots of Evil, that allows the students to have more information for their 2 paragraphs. I have the students take notes on this one as well.

Day 8:
If for some reason you are feeling that the students need some more work to do and that they are not getting it after doing all of the above I have made an additional HW assignment that is 4 pages in length and does a really good job of making sure they know who is who before going into WWII.

The last bonus that I will include is a bunch of fun facts about Hitler and his regime. I will also include a reading Stalin vs. Hitler.

This is a good 3-4 weeks of teaching with the kids that is very structured with lots of info to talk about and discuss with the students. Here is what I have included:

1. Pre-Test: Pre-test with key. I typically give this in the beginning of the unit to introduce some of the main characters and countries of the war.

2. Map Assignment: World War II map assignment. You will need to print the blank maps on the back of the assignment and 2 additional giving you a total of 3 maps so the students may use their books to see how things change in Europe during WWII. A good way just to get a sense of where everything is.

3. PPT: 62 slide PDF PowerPoint of 4-5 days of direct or flipped classroom instruction. I have my students take notes in Cornell style during this presentation. This presentation is very visual and is a wonderful way to walk the students through the war. I have them take Cornell notes while the presentation is going.

4. Vocab:These are the key terms from the unit to go over in class and say together. I always do this with the class as it makes a bigger impression and it makes sure that they know certain terms as they come up.

5. World War II from Space: video notes with Key. This will take 2 complete days to finish. I have included the masters to photocopy and a key.

6. Battle Sheet: that allows students to work independently on looking up all the battles start and finishes and who won. This is a worksheet for in or outside of class.

7. Grading the War: This is a great way for students to converse about they think went well and what they think did not go well. I like to get students in groups of 3 for this activity.

8. WWII Interactive PPT: This is a PPT map that shows the transition of all the military as the Axis Powers and Allied Powers try and destroy each other.

9. WWII reading: This is a wonderful HW assignment that allows students to get a good overview of the war in a short summary type format. There are questions that go with this as well or you can close read it in class.

10. WWII Test: I have included a review sheet and key with this 40 question multiple choice test.

11. WWII Video Project: There are so many great videos out there I like my students to watch at least 1-2 of them in groups and discuss. This is the one way I can see that getting done as to not take 1-2 weeks to show it in class. I have included links to all the videos as well.

12. WWII Worksheet: This is for those traditionalists who like worksheets and fill in the blank lessons. I figured I should include it in case people want to have this for a sub.

13. Elie Wiesel Night: this includes a reading guide and a test for the book.
Elie Wiesel Night

14.The Boy with the Striped Pajamas video guide:
Boy With the Striped Pajamas

15. Schindler's List video guide:
Schindler's List Video Guide

BONUS: I am going to give you three videos to help teach WWII. They can be inserted into the PPT or shown separately.

This is a Cold War Bundle that will include 5 things.

1. Pre-test with Key

2. This is a 23 slide presentation that will walk you through all the major events of the COLD WAR. It is very visual with very little text.

3. We didn't Start the fire with lyrics and the link to The Russians. This is a great way to look at the Cold War as many of the students have not heard or seen this songs before.

Sting The Russians with Lyrics

4. As a follow up to the PPT and the songs I like to show the show Death of Nation as it is really shows how Russia has evolved over the last couple of decades. I have included a video guide for this as well.

Death of Nation Russia

5. Cold War test is also included.

16. WORLD HISTORY VOCAB: These are all 10 chapters of vocab with space for a definition, opposite word and picture.

RETURNS: I will not be doing any returns with this item for obvious reasons. Once I have shipped the thumb drive and given the link for download it is yours to use in your classroom only.
