Your music students will enjoy learning about the influence of the Spanish & African cultures on world music. These lessons and worksheets are designed for the older music student from grade 8-10.
Included in this resource are lessons on the following different styles/cultures
- Spanish Music
- African Music
- Calypso Music
- Brazilian Music
- Mexican Music.
Each of these could be taught as independent mini units OR as part of the whole unit on the influences of these two cultures.
For each style of music there are
- Super Six Strategies
- a set of listening questions
- a writing task and a suggested song for the style— but you can choose any piece of music that best suits the needs of your students.
There are several easy to follow rhythm scores for students to play, as well as links to suggested songs to sing/perform. I have not included the music scores of any songs (copyright) but for my personal use I have found the music either for free or purchased online. There are also links to my Concepts of Music Screencasts to help with the listening questions. I apologize now for my strong Aussie accent!
Included at the end of the unit is a composition task that I use with my students. I always ask students to compose and perform this task as a group. It has always had a high completion rate among my classes and with very pleasing results!
