World News Crossword (October 9th, 2016) asks students questions about events from last week's news: a volcano in Japan erupted, Russia vetoed an attempt to impose a ceasefire in Syria, the US golfers beat European golfers to win back the Ryder Cup, Kim K was robbed in Paris, Hurricane Matthew caused almost 1000 deaths, a woman was burnt as a width in the Amazon rainforest and finally, people guilty of so-called honor killings in Pakistan cannot avoid prosecution.
This activity is not about solving a crossword. It's all about the students asking questions about the news. Why was Hurricane Matthew so big? Why do honor killings occur? Why is the Zimbabwe government allowing young elephants to be sold to China?
It's a PDF so it's easy and quick to download and then print.
There are two bonus puzzles. One is the first in a series, on Alabama. The other bonus puzzle is about good books to read.
The answers are included of course.
These puzzles are great for Homeroom, for the Time-Out room, for Social Studies homework for all ages… They work best for me and my students when done in small groups as a competition.
