A collection of word problems based on this fall’s baseball playoffs and World Series. There is a variety of problems: single and multi-step problems, using a graph and a diagram, calculating with time, etc. These are appropriate for on-level 4th Graders and most 5th Graders.
Many problems involve division with single-digit divisors. A brief explanation of the meaning of “average” (mean average, that is) is the only specific prior instruction that should be necessary. All problems are comprehensible to students with a minimum of baseball awareness and knowledge.
