The timeline of World War One is tricky, and serves as a great foundation to dive deeper into the intricacies of political complexities happening at the time. This slideshow is animated with key words that pop up in green as well as some images of maps and primary source documents. The note-taking guide included corresponds with the slideshow key words, so kids will have no problem keeping up.
I used this as a stepping-off point to allow me to give kids a general idea, after which we talked about what was most interesting, what was confusing, connections to current political climate, etc. We later jigsawed the main ideas of the war and taught each other the really interesting parts.
