In this lesson students will first discuss a WW1 propaganda poster, who its aimed at, what persuasive techniques it uses, and whether it is effective. With the help of a clear task example, they will then go on to select their own poster, research its context and write an analysis. Finally they will create their own WW1 poster, clearly explaining the context that the poster was created for, who its target audience is, what it is trying to achieve and the creative techniques used. Students will learn how to use their own inferences to draw conclusions, to think abstractly about propaganda and persuasive devices in the context of the first world war, to independently research and reference to support argument, and to apply these techniques creatively to their own project.
