This inspiring World War 2 reading worksheet tells the story of the immortal four chaplains of the SS Dorchester.
In 1943, the US Army transport ship Dorchester was hit by a German torpedo off the coast of Greenland. Four heroic Army chaplains (Protestant, Jewish, & Catholic) rescued and guided soldiers, passed out life vests, and chose to go down with the ship.
This download includes their story along with a 1-page worksheet of Common Core-aligned reading questions and a suggested extension activity.
This is a wonderful, motivational story for students to read in class or for homework and often leads to great class discussion on the role of army chaplains, interfaith connections, and bravery in the face of almost certain death.
