Students will examine World War 1 propaganda posters and use the information to create their own World War 1 propaganda poster. Students will examine American, English, Australian, Canadian, and German propaganda posters. Students can individually or work in small groups to answer the following questions related to each nation's propaganda posters.
What symbols do propaganda posters use to get you to hate?
List some of things propaganda posters were trying to get you to do.
Were any religious symbols used to convince you that your side is right?
Were there any propaganda posters that stood out to you or that you thought were odd? Explain!
Students will pick a nation during World War I and create a propaganda poster. The poster must be in color and have a key theme,
Extra Lesson Plan:
Students will demonstrate an understanding of how weapons and tactics changed during World War I. This will help students understand why World War I was so deadly.
Draw a caricature of a solder during World War I. Label the soldier's equipment, and body parts to show what a typical soldier might have felt or been prepared for upon arrival to the trenches.
