This is a fun simulation that introduces WW1. It explains all 4 causes along with the assassination that is the direct cause. You divide your class into groups and each is a "fake" country (all 6 European countries are given fake names). They receive information about what is going on in Europe and a fact sheet about the status of each country. Then 2 news bulletins occur (troop movement from one country and a death) and countries have to react to each. The goal is for war to be avoided, but it is fun to see how the students react to alliances and the build up of armies, etc... At the end, you relate it to the real countries and see if the groups did what the real countries did.
