In this two-day lesson, students read an informational text about the War Poets of World War I and study one of the poems “Dulce et Decorum Est.”
The teacher activates students by connecting the horrors of World War I to the horrors of Halloween. Students preview the article, and write questions based on textual and graphic features. Students summarize their knowledge by writing higher-order thinking questions using sentence stems. Students will then compare and contrast the text of the poem to the music video version.
