During WWI, British troops discovered a printing press at Ypres and began publishing a satirical newspaper. Their story has now been made popular through a film called The Wipers Times.
This activity asks students to make historical generalizations about British soldiers' lives through the film and then by actually examining the original newspaper.
The file includes a Viewing Guide for the movie (which can be found on Netflix), a graphic organizer to keep their notes when examining the actual newspaper, and an activity that asks students to create their own generalizations about soldiers' lives.
By the end of the activity students should be better able to make historical generalizations and gain perspective on the soldiers' lives and experiences.
