This activity has students examine the differences between war propaganda that was used during WWI to recruit soldiers and the realities of being a soldier in combat. I would do this activity after teaching students:
1. The definition of war propaganda and showing them examples
2. Realities of being in war
To connect it to modern day, I show students a military commercial that intentionally leaves out scenes depicting combat.
Students then are asked to create their own drawings for one of the pre-selected topics.
After students complete their drawings, they complete their reflection questions.
A rubric is included for grading.
