2) A document-based activity that will help your students analyze primary source documents from FDR and others in the United States government. Your students will examine the aggressive actions taken by the dictators in Europe and analyze the reactions the United States took in response to them. Following this, students will also identify the steps that led the United States closer to war. These steps include; the Cash-Carry Provision, The "Bases for Destroyers" Deal and the Lend-Lease Act. Students will identify why these "deals" helped to lead the US nearer to war in Europe. When completed, your students will have a thorough understanding of American sentiment towards war before the attack on Pearl Harbor launches the US to war.
This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.
