Rather than assessing your unit on World War II through your traditional test, try this "Dinner Menu" of activity choices that includes a rubric (100 points) and necessary templates. Students must complete the "appetizer" activity, choose and complete two of the "side dishes" and one of the "entrees". For advanced students, a "dessert" is available. The assessment is distributed in a "menu" format that includes all options, requirements, and the rubric itself.
Activities focus on the "big picture" of World War II such as appeasement, the most significant battles only, how different demographic groups contributed to the war effort, propaganda, etc. Note: The assessment does not address the Holocaust (but you are welcome to adapt the options to include activities if you are not teaching the Holocaust separately).
